Quantities and Budget Integration

Bring time, quantities, and cost together – in one dynamic plan.

In Tactplan, planning doesn’t stop at activities and durations. We give you the tools to connect quantities and budgets directly to your schedule.

Why Connect Quantities and Budget to Your Schedule?

Traditionally, time schedules, quantity take-offs, and cost control live in separate systems. That creates delays, gaps in understanding, and risks of misalignment. Tactplan offers a more integrated approach.

By linking quantities and budget data directly to your task , you can:

  • Calculate the duration of tasks based on real, measurable quantities and not just gut feeling.
  • Track progress against both time and cost.
  • Monitor quantity production per location and takt.
  • Understand how much work (and cost) is completed – and what remains.
  • Spot budget deviations early.
  • Support reliable forecasting and earned value analysis.

How It Works in Tactplan

The workflow is straightforward, but it may require a bit of commitment to learning the methodology and developing a structure for your data.

The steps for integrating quantities, time, and cost are:

Extract quantities per building element type and location from your BIM/IFC model, or measure them manually.
Import quantities and cost plan with unit costs to Tactplan via Excel.
Link quantity items to costs and tasks, and add consumption factors (e.g., hours per unit).
Tactplan will then automatically calculate the duration per location for each task and cost per location.
Optimize your schedule with the relevant resources per task, and you are ready to start construction with a transparent data-driven schedule.

In Tactplan, each activity can carry:
  • A quantity (e.g. m² of concrete, meters of pipe, number of windows)
  • A unit cost or total cost - not everything has to be detailed - you can work with lump sums and let Tactplan handle splitting the cost across locations .
  • A link to cost codes, budget breakdowns, or work packages – it is good for structured reporting and follow-up.
These data points are used as the backbone in your production and cost control
This enables planners, project managers, and controllers to:
  • See real-time quantity progress per location
  • Monitor daily/weekly production rates
  • Compare planned vs. actual cost performance
  • Create simple visualizations of progress vs. budget
  • Export data for invoicing, reporting or integration with financial systems

Supporting Lean, Accurate, and Transparent Cost Management

Tactplan’s integration of quantities and cost helps improve both predictability and accountability. It supports Lean construction goals by:

  • Reducing waste in production planning
  • Making needs of resources visible in advance
  • Enabling tighter control of subcontractor performance
  • Improving communication between the field and the office

You don’t need a separate system to understand your project’s financial progress — it’s right there, built into the schedule.

Ideal For:

  • General contractors managing complex project budgets
  • Project owners tracking earned value and progress payments
  • Cost managers linking planning with quantity surveying
  • Site managers reporting daily production in relation to targets
  • Lean teams looking to align planning and cost data for continuous improvement
